Euro-Med Monitor documents killing of 2,122 elderly people during war in Gaza

GAZA, Sept. 03 (YPA) – The Euro-Mediterranean Human Rights Monitor revealed, in a non-final tally, that 2,122 elderly men and women were killed during 330 days of the Israeli aggression on the Gaza Strip.

This death toll constitutes about 2% of the total number of elderly people in the Gaza Strip, which amounts to 107,000 elderly people, and 4% of the total Palestinian martyrs in Gaza since October 7, the monitor added in a press statement.

The statement confirmed that these crimes, which have been repeated hundreds of times, have no justification, especially at a time when this vulnerable group of civilians is facing double suffering after “Israel” turned them into legitimate targets since the beginning of its massive attack on the Gaza Strip.

The vast majority of these elderly people were crushed to death under the rubble of their homes or the shelter centers they took refuge in after they were bombed by Israeli aircraft or during their forced movement to fulfill their basic needs in the streets and markets, according to the monitor statement.

The Euro-Med Monitor reported that dozens of the elderly people were directly targeted through liquidations and field executions.

The monitor renewed its call for immediate international pressure on Israel to stop all its crimes against the Palestinian people, including the crime of genocide in Gaza, to complete withdrawal from the occupied Palestinian territory, and to hold it accountable for all its crimes and serious violations.

It also called for lifting the siege on the Gaza Strip and ensuring safe and complete access to humanitarian supplies.
