Meteorology center issues new warnings on weather changes in Yemen

SANAA, Aug. 30 (YPA) – The National Center for Meteorology and Early Warning expected on  Friday partly to mostly cloudy weather with ongoing rain and thunderstorms of varying intensity, accompanied by hailstones and blowing winds, in the provinces of Saada, Hajjah, Amran, Sanaa, Mahweet, Dhamar, Raymah, Ibb, Dhalea, Taiz, Lahj, and the highlands of the Tihamah plain.

The center indicated in its forecast for the next 24 hours that scattered thunderstorm and rain of different intensity to lash various parts of the highlands of Marib, Jawf, Bayda, Abyan, Shabwa, Hadramout, and Mahra.

It also notes that coastal areas will experience partly to mostly cloudy weather, with a chance of thunderstorms of varying intensity in the coastlines of the governorates of Hajjah, Hodeida, and Taiz, as well as in the Tihamah plain and parts of the coastlines of Lahj, Aden, Abyan, Shabwa, and Hadramout.

“Very strong winds are expected around the Socotra Archipelago, with speeds reaching up to 50 knots, and moderate to strong winds on the Gulf of Aden and the eastern and southern coasts, causing dust and sand storms,” the center added.

In the desert areas, the weather is expected to be partly to mostly cloudy with scattered thunderstorms and rain in some parts, and moderate to active winds, occasionally strong, causing dust and sand, according to the center.

The center renewed its warnings to citizens about being in the depths of valleys, flood paths, crossing land bridges, and of thunderstorms and strong winds, and decreased horizontal visibility due to rainfall and fog formation.

It also warned of rockslides on roads and mountain slopes and the collapse of mud and popular buildings due to continued rainfall.
