‘Epidemiological situation inside Gaza is terrifying, dangerous’: Palestinian Health

GAZA, Aug. 18 (YPA) – Member of the emergency committee at the Gaza-run health ministry, Moatasem Saed Salah, described on Sunday the epidemiological situation in the Strip as terrifying.

He Salah spoke in a statement to Al-Mamlaka TV about the spread of epidemics in a very large way within the Strip, confirming that dozens of cases of malnutrition are reported every day, especially among children and pregnant and breastfeeding women.

“In our estimation, there will be a threat and risk of the spread of additional epidemics, and it will not be limited to polio,” according to the statement.

Moatasem spoke about the accumulation of thousands of tons of waste and the destruction of the sewage infrastructure.

He continued: “We are talking about 4,000 people using only one toilet, with no clean drinking water, no food, basic supplies and basic needs.”

“The spread of some viruses that are resistant to all types of antibiotics has been recorded, Moatasem said. “This is a very dangerous indicator at the level of public health.”

He pointed out that “infection control teams are still continuing to investigate these viruses and microbes that are resistant to all types of antibiotics.”
