Italian opposition calls for withdrawal of ambassador from Israel

WORLD, Aug. 11 (YPA) – The Israeli occupation army’s bombing of the Al-Tabaeen school in Gaza City, which resulted in the death of at least 100 Palestinians, has provoked strong reactions from Italian political parties, with some calling for the Italian government to recall its ambassador from Tel Aviv.

According to local media, the leader of the Italian opposition party “5 Star Movement”, former Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte asked the government to recall the Italian ambassador from Israel following the bombing of the Hamas headquarters located in Al-Tabaeen school in Gaza City.

Media reports also quoted Elly Schlein, leader of the Democratic Party (the largest opposition party), stating that “bombing schools and hospitals constitutes a war crime, and it is unacceptable to continue witnessing what is happening in Gaza.”

Schlein emphasized the need for a European and international initiative to halt Netanyahu’s actions.

Italian Foreign Minister and Deputy Prime Minister Antonio Tajani, said in a post on X (formerly Twitter) that “The bombing of a school in Gaza that resulted in so many innocent victims is absolutely unacceptable.”

He called on Israel to respect humanitarian law and to protect civilians. He further called for immediate ceasefire and release of hostages held by Hamas”

On the morning of August 10, the Israeli army reported an airstrike against the Hamas headquarters, which was located in al-Tabaeenn school in Gaza City.

According to the Palestinian enclave’s civil defense office, over 100 people were killed in the attack.
