HADRAMOUT, Aug. 05 (YPA) -Turkey has carried out its first official intervention in the coastal districts of Hadramout province, which are under the control of UAE-backed factions in the Arabian Sea, local sources said on Monday.
Media sources explained that the Turkish Red Crescent, in coordination with leaders from the Islah Party, distributed fishing nets and their contents, along with fish storage boxes to 300 beneficiaries in the district of al-Shihr.
They noted that Turkey plans to support fishermen in the Shabwa coast in the coming days with fishing equipment, including nets and fish storage boxes, to improve their living conditions and enhance their production capabilities.
Several Hadramout activists on social media pointed out that the UAE, which controls the coastal districts through its forces and factions, has not implemented any developmental projects for fishermen, except for closing off the sea, preventing them from fishing, and confiscating their boats since 2016.
In recent years, fishermen in the coastal districts have staged protests in front of the UAE forces’ headquarters at al-Riyan Airport in Mukalla, with the most recent protest occurring last Thursday. They have been demanding an end to the injustice they face and the right to resume fishing without interference from local authorities.
