Palestinian lawyer reveals “serious atrocities” committed by Israeli occupation against Gaza prisoners

OCCUPIED PALESTINE, July 15 (YPA) – A lawyer for the Palestinian Prisoners’ Affairs Authority revealed on Monday serious atrocities committed by the Israeli occupation forces against prisoners in the Gaza Strip who are held in the “Teman Sade” prison near the occupied city of Beersheba.

Lawyer Khaled Mahajneh said during a press conference in Ramallah, “The occupation practices all kinds of abuse against Gaza Strip prisoners inside prisons.”

This came after his visit to “Ofer” prison, to which a number of Gaza prisoners who were present in “Teman Sade” were transferred.

Mahajneh reported horrific testimonies about the Gaza Strip prisoners, noting that some of the detainees in Ofer were subjected to sexual harassment after being stripped of their clothes and beaten in sensitive places, and they are currently suffering from difficult health and psychological conditions.

He quoted one of the prisoners as saying that police dogs attack detainees and tear their bodies while they have their hands tied behind their heads, in addition to subjecting them to ghost operations accompanied by beatings.

Mahajneh pointed out that there are more than 100 sick and wounded detainees without treatment, in light of severe overcrowding in the prison rooms, which are cement rooms that lack ventilation and are no more than five square meters in size and contain iron beds without mattresses or covers, and 25 detainees are detained in each one, the majority of whom sleep on the floor.

He stated that the detainees eat while handcuffed, and each detainee has one meal throughout the day, which consists of 100 grams of bread, a cucumber or tomato, and a very small amount of milk.

Mahajneh reported that the bathroom is exposed inside the detainee’s rooms, in addition to the presence of surveillance cameras inside the rooms focusing on the bathrooms, while the duration of showering is still limited to one minute only.

Mahajneh, quoting the detainees, noted that Ofer detention center includes two torture wards inside the rooms, and the detainees cannot be seen during their torture, but only their screams can be heard. “Recently, the occupation soldiers assaulted all the detainees in Ofer, causing many of them to have their limbs broken.”

The lawyer quoted one of the detainees, who was transferred from the “Sade Teman” camp to “Ofer,” as saying that one of the sick detainees was martyred after the occupation soldiers refused to provide him with the necessary treatment.
