Stoltenberg: NATO does not need to review its nuclear doctrine

WORLD, July 01 (YPA) – NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said that the alliance currently does not see a need to review its nuclear doctrine.

Stoltenberg added in an interview with the Japanese newspaper “Yomiuri” that “there is no direct threat at present.  NATO does not need to review its nuclear doctrine

Stoltenberg also said that the process of replacing American fighter jets used for nuclear deterrence from F-16 to F-35 is proceeding as usual.

Earlier, Russian President Vladimir Putin stated that Russia is considering possible changes to its nuclear doctrine.

He  affirmed  that Moscow no longer needs to carry out a preemptive nuclear strike. Putin also mentioned that particularly, low-yield nuclear bombs are being developed.
