Swiss Parliament refuses to vote in favor of occupied Palestine

BERN, June 04 (YPA) – The Swiss Parliament voted on Tuesday against a draft law to recognize Palestine as an independent state.

The Parliament’s press center reported that the National Council rejected the initiative presented by Fabian Molina, the Social Democratic Party’s deputy for Zurich, indicating that 61 members voted in favor of the Palestinian state recognition law, compared to 131 votes against it.

Molina proposed approving a draft resolution stating that “the National Council will recognize Palestine as a state within the 1967 borders, on the condition that the prisoners are released.”

During the discussion, Swiss Foreign Minister Ignazio Cassis spoke against the adoption of the proposed draft resolution, stressing that his country supports the settlement in the Middle East on the basis of the two-state principle.

As a result, during the vote, the draft resolution on the recognition of Palestine was supported only by deputies from the Social Democratic Party and the Green Party.
