UNRWA: Any Israeli military attack on Rafah, will increase citizens tragedy, famine
GAZA, May 06 (YPA) – The Commissioner-General of UNRWA, Philippe Lazzarini, said on Monday that any Israeli military attack on the city of Rafah in the southern Gaza Strip will increase the unbearable tragedy of the people in Gaza, and will increase famine among the residents of the Strip.
Lazzarini added in a statement, that the looming threat of additional displacement could push society to the point of collapse, exposing hundreds of thousands of people to further danger.
He stressed that the Israeli attack on Rafah will mean an increase in suffering and deaths among civilians, and that the consequences will be devastating for 1.4 million people, noting that life in Rafah is fraught with dangers, and that living conditions are deteriorating and could get worse.
UNRWA called for the protection of civilians, stressing that what we need is a ceasefire now, and not a new forced displacement, confirming that the agency will remain with its partners in Rafah to provide vital assistance in Rafah for as long as possible.
