HODEIDA, May 05 (YPA) – 17 fishermen from Mocha returned to the beaches of Al-Khokha in Hodeida province, after weeks of being detained in Eritrea’s prisons.
A source in the Ministry of Fisheries in the Sanaa government explained that the fishermen arrived on board a jalaba to the beaches of Al-Khokha, amid a welcome reception from their families and colleagues.
The source pointed out that the fishermen spent weeks in Eritrean Termah prisons in extremely poor detention conditions, where they were subjected to serious violations by the Eritrean authorities, who reneged on their previous pledges to release 45 fishermen, reducing the number to only 17.
Fishermen in the western coastal areas of Yemen are subjected to repeated violations by the Eritrean Navy, which confiscates their boats and their fish, and detains them for long periods without justification.
