Bloomberg: Zelenskyy to meet Trump, faces dilemma

WORLD, Aug. 18 (YPA)- Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, who arrived in the United States on Monday for a critical meeting with President Donald Trump, faces a significant dilemma, according to a report by Bloomberg.

The agency suggests Zelenskyy is caught between two difficult choices: risk angering President Trump or accept a rapid peace deal for Ukraine.

A source familiar with the matter told Bloomberg that Zelenskyy’s objectives for the summit are to “learn more about Russia’s demands, set a date for a trilateral meeting with Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin, and also to push the United States to impose sanctions on Russia.”

The report noted that the European leaders accompanying Zelenskyy have limited decisive influence over Trump and that disagreements exist among them.

Zelenskyy’s advisors are expected to try and learn more about the security guarantees the US might be willing to offer as part of any potential deal

.The White House announced that the meeting between Trump and Zelenskyy is scheduled for 8:00 PM GMT today, Monday.

According to CNN, US Vice President J.D. Vance is also expected to attend.

President Trump is also scheduled to meet with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, French President Emmanuel Macron, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, Finnish President Alexander Stubb, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, and NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte.

According to the German newspaper Bild, Trump will first meet privately with Zelenskyy before holding a joint session with the European leaders.

Meanwhile, US Special Presidential Envoy Steve Witkoff expressed hope that an agreement could be reached on the regional issues related to the Ukrainian conflict.
