French FM: Situation in Gaza is catastrophic

RIYADH, April 20 (YPA) – France’s Foreign Minister Stéphane Séjourné said on Monday that talks on a ceasefire in Gaza are making progress, according to what Reuters reported.

“Things are moving forward, but you always have to be careful in these discussions and negotiations,” he said in the Saudi capital, Riyadh. “The situation in Gaza is catastrophic, and we need a ceasefire.”

Séjourné will visit Riyadh, where he is scheduled to meet other ministers from Arab and Western countries, in addition to Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas.

Earlier, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken arrived in Saudi Arabia aimed at discussing the situation in Gaza after the war with Arab partners.

The visit also aims to put pressure on Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to take concrete steps requested by US President Joe Biden this month, to improve the deteriorating humanitarian situation in Gaza.
