WORLD, April 18 (YPA) -Russian Permanent Representative to the United Nations Security Council, Vasily Nebenzya, has said that the Council must urgently consider imposing sanctions on Israel for its non-compliance to the Gaza ceasefire resolution in Ramadan
“We remind you once again that non-compliance with mandatory Security Council resolutions must lead to sanctions against violators. We believe that the Council should consider this issue without delay,” Nebenzia told during a session of the 15-member UN body on Wednesday as IRNA cited a Russian news agency.
He noted that Security Council Resolution 2728, which demanded a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip during Ramadan, had not been implemented, adding that the council needs to investigate the issue of sanctioning the Zionist regime.
Earlier, Nebenzya stated that Russia calls on Israel to follow the example of Iran, which it said does not seek further escalation.
Nebenzya also expressed Russia’s deep concern about the continued Israeli operations in the Gaza Strip, despite the previous decision by the Security Council demanding a ceasefire.
He stated during a previous session of the Security Council, “We are deeply concerned about this blatant disregard by the Israeli leadership, with complicity from the United States, regarding a legally binding decision of the Council.”
