Washington threatens to veto Palestine’s membership application in UN

WASHINGTON, April 17 (YPA) – The United States of America is pressing for the withdrawal of a draft resolution to support granting full membership to Palestine in the United Nations Security Council.

According to official Palestinian sources, Washington is pressuring the Arab group to withdraw the draft resolution accepting Palestine as a full member of the United Nations, which is scheduled to be voted on tomorrow, Thursday.

The sources added that the US administration threatened to use its veto to abort the resolution in the Security Council if it was put to a vote.

It continued, “The Palestinian and Arab group’s decision is not to withdraw the resolution and put it to a vote despite the threat of the American veto.”

Diplomatic sources reported earlier today that the UN Security Council will hold a session tomorrow, Thursday, to vote on a draft resolution recommending granting Palestine membership in the United Nations.

Last week, the UN Security Council referred the Palestinian Authority’s request for full membership in the international organization to the committee responsible for accepting new members.
