UN official: Zionist siege on Gaza leads to largest humanitarian disaster

GENEVA, April 16 (YPA) – Head of the United Nations Commission of Inquiry on the Occupied Palestinian Territories, Navanethem Pillay, confirmed that the Zionist siege imposed on the Gaza Strip since last October 2023 has led to an unimaginable humanitarian catastrophe.

This came in a meeting on Tuesday, entitled “Briefing of the United Nations Independent International Commission of Inquiry on the Occupied Palestinian Territories, including Al-Quds and the Occupied Territories, sponsored by the Permanent Representation of Egypt at the United Nations Office in Geneva.”

The meeting was attended by Ambassador Dr. Ahmed Ihab Gamaleldin, Permanent Representative of the Arab Republic of Egypt to the United Nations Office, Turkey’s Permanent Representative, Ambassador Ambassador Güven Bege, and representatives of many countries.

In the meeting, Pillay indicated that they prepared four reports after the establishment of the committee in 2021 and presented them to the United Nations Human Rights Council and the United Nations General Assembly, discussing issues such as the use of force by the Zionist enemy soldiers in the occupied Palestinian territories, increasing armament, and narrowing the civilian scope.

She explained that the committee focused all its work on the current aggression against Gaza since the seventh of last October, stressing that the Zionist enemy has launched an unprecedented war on the people of Gaza and that more than 33 thousand Palestinians have been martyred in this war, most of whom were children and women.
