HADRAMOUT, March 06 (YPA) – The Federation of Trade Unions in Hadramout province, affiliated with the Southern Transitional Council (STC), announced on Wednesday upcoming escalatory measures against the government loyal to the Saudi-led coalition, starting in mid-March.
The union called on workers in all sectors and institutions in Hadramout districts to raise red badges on Thursday, March 14, for a period of three days and to begin implementing a partial strike.
A statement issued by the union yesterday, Tuesday, confirmed that the total strike and the cessation of all work will begin on Wednesday, March 20.
The statement stressed that the workers’ strike should not be lifted except with official notification from the union until the workers’ demands are met by the government to improve their salaries and implement economic reforms that limit the deterioration of living conditions and the collapse of the local currency against foreign currencies.
The UAE-backed STC takes workers’ demands as a pretext to escalate against the government headed by Ahmed Awad bin Mubarak, who is loyal to the Islah Party.
