United States vetoes UN resolution demanding ceasefire in Gaza

WORLD, Feb. 20 (YPA) -The United States has vetoed the latest resolution that was put forward on behalf of Arab States by Algeria, which demanded “an immediate humanitarian ceasefire that must be respected by all parties.”

13 of the 15 Security Council members voted for the resolution, including Russia and China. The United Kingdom abstained.

The United States was therefore the only one to oppose the resolution.

Algeria, on behalf of Arab states, submitted a draft resolution calling for an immediate ceasefire in the besieged Gaza Strip, which has been under brutal Israeli aggression since October 7.

The draft resolution also rejected the forced displacement of Palestinians, called for compliance with international law and renewed the call for full, rapid, safe and unhindered humanitarian access to the Gaza Strip.
