Washington threatens to veto Algerian draft resolution calling for ceasefire in Gaza

WORLD, Feb. 18 (YPA) – Washington has threatened to veto a new resolution proposed by Algeria to the United Nations Security Council, calling for an “immediate cessation of hostilities for humanitarian reasons” in the Gaza Strip.

Following the International Court of Justice’s decision demanding “Israel” to prevent “genocide” in Gaza, Algeria initiated consultations in the Security Council regarding a new resolution calling for a ceasefire in the region.

The latest version of the Algerian resolution draft called on the Security Council to adopt the resolution calling for  “an immediate cessation of hostilities in the Gaza Strip for humanitarian reasons respected by all parties.”

According to sources at the United Nations, Algeria requested the Security Council to vote on the text of the resolution on Tuesday in its current form.

The resolution draft rejected the forced displacement of Palestinians and called for an end to this violation of international law and the release of all hostages.
