Turkish cargo ship sinks in Sea of Marmara

ANKARA, Feb. 15 (YPA) – A 69-meter-long Turkish cargo ship sank on Thursday in the Sea of Marmara, southwest of Imrali Island.

The General Directorate of Coastal Safety (KEGM) announced the start of rescue efforts to rescue the ship’s crew, which consists of six people who are Turkish citizens.

The ship bears the name “Batuhan A” and was submerged in water southwest of Imrali Island in the Sea of Marmara, according to the directorate.
For his part, Bursa Governor Mahmut Demirtas announced the establishment of a crisis center in Mudanya.

He stated that the height of the waves in the area where the ship sank approached three meters, explaining that it sank off the coast of the Kurşunlu area in the Karacabe region, 3.5 miles from the shore.
