GENEVA, Feb. 10 (YPA) – The World Health Organization (WHO) announced on Friday that it had documented 721 attacks on health care facilities in the occupied Palestinian territories, including 357 in Gaza Stripe since October 7, 2023.
The organization’s spokesman, Tariq Yasarevic, confirmed during a press conference held in Geneva, Switzerland, that “the United Nations organization has documented 721 attacks on health care facilities in the occupied Palestinian territories since last October 7.”
Yasarevic pointed out that among the attacks, “about 357 attacks targeted health care facilities in the Gaza Strip, killing 645 people and wounding 818 others.”
He explained that “the attacks affected 98 healthcare facilities, including 27 hospitals out of 36 that were damaged, and affected 90 ambulances” in the Gaza Strip.
Earlier on Friday, the Executive Director of the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), Catherine Russell, stressed the need for “the remaining hospitals, shelters, markets and water networks in Gaza to remain able to function.”
Russell confirmed that without that, “the rate of hunger and disease will increase dramatically, leading to the death of more children.”
