STC’s elements clash with demonstrators in Zinjibar

ABYAN, Jan. 31 (YPA) – Factions of the UAE-backed Southern Transitional Council (STC) suppressed on Tuesday a protest condemning the deterioration of living conditions and catastrophic collapse of the local currency in Zinjibar, the capital of Abyan province.

Human rights sources in the city confirmed that armed faction members dispersed a local demonstration condemning corruption, economic decline, ongoing levies, and taxes imposed by the UAE-backed factions’ leadership, using the force of arms.

They chased participants to several residential neighborhoods.

“The STC forces tried to disperse the protests, which led to confrontations with the demonstrators.”

During these clashes, several activists were reportedly abducted.

According to the sources, the STC forces deployed military vehicles on the main and secondary streets and at the entrances to residential neighborhoods to limit the widespread protests.

In the coming days, residents of Aden and other southern provinces under the control of the Saudi-led coalition are expected to organize angry protests demanding the departure of the coalition from these areas due to economic collapse and the absence of basic services such as electricity, water, healthcare, and skyrocketing prices.
