Syria FM expresses its deep regret over Jordanian air strikes

DAMASCUS, Jan. 23 (YPA) – Syria’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed on Tuesday its deep regret over the air strikes carried out by the Jordanian Air Force on areas inside Syrian territory.

“There is no justification for such military operations inside Syrian territory,” the ministry said in a statement. “The escalation we have witnessed in the past months is not consistent with what was agreed upon regarding honest cooperation to combat all violations.”

The statement referred to the letters sent by the Ministers of Foreign Affairs, Defense, and Security Services to their counterparts in the Kingdom of Jordan, which included suggestions for taking practical steps to control the borders and Syria’s readiness to cooperate with Jordanian institutions.

The Syrian Foreign Ministry commented by saying, “These letters were ignored, and Damascus did not receive any response by the Jordanian side.”

The statement emphasized that Syria “continues to combat terrorism and confront and end all crimes related to smuggling and drug trafficking.”
