HADRAMOUT, Jan. 10 (YPA) – The so-called Hadramout Tribal Alliance has called on the coalition-backed local authorities to end the measures that prevent fishermen from practicing their main profession for a decent living in the province.
Human rights sources said that the Alliance leaders demanded, during a meeting on Wednesday, the opening of the ports and allowing fishermen to enter the sea to carry out their fishing work, after the coalition forces closed large areas of the province’s coast during the past months.
The meeting explained that closing the sea to fishermen will lead to doubling the deterioration of the living conditions of their families due to their complete dependence on the marine fishing profession.
It denounced the tightening pressure on fishermen in the province and preventing them from practicing fishing.
On the other hands, the so-called “Fishermen’s Coordination” in Hadramout welcomed the Alliance’s positions and its support for the legitimate demands of thousands of affected fishermen.
Popular anger has increased in Hadramout as a result of the continued closure of large areas of the sea to fishermen, in addition to the closure of Al-Rayyan Airport since the UAE forces took control of the airport in early 2016 and turned it into an American military base on the Arabian Sea.
