Macron appoints first openly gay prime minister

PARIS, Jan. 09 (YPA) – Franc’s President, Emmanuel Macron, on Tuesday openly appointed 34-year-old Gabriel Attal, as prime minister.

Attal is becoming the youngest and first openly gay prime minister in the history of the French government.

On Monday, Macron accepted the resignation of 62-year-old Prime Minister Elisabeth Borne.
He said in a message posted on “X” platform “Madam Prime Minister, your work in serving our nation has been exemplary every day. I implemented reforms with courage, commitment and determination, thank you from my heart.”

Borne, who was appointed in May 2022, the second woman to hold this position after Edith Cresson, and adopted several sensitive texts, including pension reform and those related to immigration, which shook the presidential camp last month.

The French President had raised speculation about a government reshuffle in December, by promising a new political initiative, after the year 2023 witnessed many political crises.
