UNICEF warns of imminent disaster, as Gaza children currently lack 90% of their water needs

GAZA, Dec. 21 (YPA) – The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) warned on Thursday that children in the Gaza Strip lack 90 percent of their water needs.

UNICEF said in a statement today that “half of the water and sanitation facilities were destroyed or damaged as a result of the Zionist aggression on the Gaza Strip.”

The organization added that the lack of clean water in the Gaza Strip increases the risk of waterborne diseases such as cholera and chronic diarrhea, indicating that the number of diarrhea cases among Gazan children under the age of five is about 20 times higher than the monthly average.

The UN organization explained that the minimum amount of water needed for an individual in emergency situations is 15 liters, while a child in Gaza gets only one and a half to two liters per day.
