South African parliament votes in favor of severing ties with “Israel”

WORLD, Nov. 22 (YPA) – South African legislators have voted in favor of closing Israel’s embassy in the African country to express their solidarity with Palestinians in the besieged Gaza Strip, which has been under brutal Israeli assaults for weeks.

South African newspaper eNCA said: “The South African parliament voted and decided to close the Israeli embassy and cut diplomatic relations.

Members of parliament also voted to suspend the work of the Israeli ambassador to South Africa. The parliament stated that these measures would remain in place until Israel agrees to a ceasefire and participates in negotiations organized by the United Nations.

Earlier, South Africa’s President Cyril Ramaphosa described Israeli actions in the Gaza Strip as genocide and war crimes.

He also stressed that his country urges a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip and the resumption of dialogue between the two sides, pointing to the need to deploy UN forces in Palestine to monitor and observe the ceasefire regime and protect civilians.

In another statement, Ramaphosa announced that his country had filed a complaint with the International Criminal Court “in order to investigate war crimes committed by Israel in the Gaza Strip.”
