Saudi authorities ban family of ‘Hadramout Tribal Alliance’ leader from departing Jeddah airport
JEDDAH, Aug. 18 (YPA) – Saudi authorities at Jeddah airport on Sunday prevented the family of Sheikh Amr bin Habrish al-Aliyi, head of the Hadramout Tribal Alliance, from boarding a Yemenia Airways flight bound for Riyan Airport in Hadramout, without providing official reasons for the decision.
The incident follows the brief detention of Sheikh bin Habrish and his escorts by Saudi intelligence at the Al-Wadeah border crossing last month as he attempted to return to Hadramout. He was subsequently redirected to Riyadh, where he—alongside several political, military, and local officials aligned with the UAE-backed Southern Transitional Council (STC)—has remained under house arrest since early January, amid ongoing efforts by Riyadh to enforce its regional agenda in southern and eastern Yemen.
The leader of the Hadramout Tribal Alliance continues to oppose the decision to resume crude oil exports from the Masila fields via the Shihr (Al-Dhaba) oil terminal. Bin Habrish insists that exports should not resume until the rights of local residents are fully guaranteed, ensuring they directly benefit from their region’s natural resources to improve essential basic services.
