ADEN, Nov. 19 (YPA) – A young man was killed and his mother was seriously injured on Sunday in armed clashes between armed elements selling alcohol and hashish to UAE-backed factions in Aden city, southern Yemen.
According to local sources in the city, armed confrontations broke out between elements affiliated with the UAE-backed Southern Transitional Council (STC) who practiced smuggling and selling alcohol and hashish in the Al-Haswah area of Al-Buraiqa District, as a result of which the young man Ashraf Al-Shamiri was killed and his mother was injured while they were passing near the area of clashes.
Al-Shamiri and his mother were in their car on their way back to their home, and they were hit by stray bullets fired by the gunmen and were subsequently transferred to a hospital, the sources added, indicating that the condition of Al-Shamiri’s mother is critical.
Aden has been experiencing an unprecedented state of security chaos since the Saudi-led coalition took control of the city in the second half of 2015 and created a number of factions loyal to the UAE and Saudi Arabia.
