Norway adopts proposal calling to recognize independent Palestinian state

OSLO, Nov. 17 (YPA) – Norway’s Parliament has adopted a proposal calling on the government to recognize an independent Palestinian state, on the basis that this decision would have a positive impact on the peace process in the Middle East.

“The government is required to be prepared to recognize Palestine as an independent state when this recognition can have a positive impact on the peace process, but without being conditional on reaching a final peace agreement,” the resolution stated, according to the Sky News website.

Although the statement was formed by the Labor and Center parties, which formed a minority government, it was supported by conservative representatives (the most important opposition party), in addition to other political parties.

The proposal came in the context of escalating calls to revive the two-state solution, in order to put an end to the bloody war in Gaza between Israeli entity and Hamas since October 7.

In the same context, two northern European countries, Iceland and Sweden, recognize the State of Palestine, as well as other countries on the continent such as Poland, the Czech Republic, and Romania.
