Mahra fishermen block public road to protest random dredging of fish

MAHRA, Nov. 06 (YPA) – Dozens of fishermen from the Saihut District in Mahra Governorate blocked the main road on Monday in protest against the random dredging of fish resources by foreign ships that plague Yemeni waters in the Arabian Sea, eastern Yemen.

They explained that random dredging and drifting threaten fish wealth and lead to the destruction of coral reefs, which endangers the fishing profession without any intervention by the government loyal to the Saudi-led coalition.

The fishermen stated that they had suffered huge losses during the fishing seasons due to the significant decrease in the amount of catch, which negatively affected their families’ daily income.

The protesting fishermen raised banners demanding that the pro-coalition local authorities stop the tampering with fish wealth and protect it from plunder and systematic destruction in favor of external parties.
