Meteorology warns of developing Cyclone “Tej” to Yemen coasts

SANAA, Oct. 22 (YPA) – The National Center for Meteorology declared on Sunday that the Tropical Cyclone “Tej” has developed into a severe cyclonic storm on the Yemeni coasts.

In its emergency bulletin on Sunday, the center indicating that it is currently centered at latitude 12.18 and longitude 55.24, and taking 67 kilometers away from Socotra, and 500 kilometers from Al Ghaydah city of Mahra province of Yemen.

It explained that the storm would move northwest of its current location, and cumulus rain clouds may be formed near the coasts of Mahra and Hadramout provinces.

The center expected cloudy skies with heavy rains accompanied by thunderstorms over the Socotra Archipelago and the eastern Gulf of Aden, noting the possibility of strong hurricane winds, ranging from 90 to 100 knots.

It warned ship captains and fishermen against sailing in areas affected by dangerous weather conditions, calling on citizens in the Socotra Archipelago not to be in floodways.
