About 260,000 Palestinians displaced from Gaza

OCCUPIED PALESTINE, Oct. 11 (YPA) – About 260,000 Palestinians from Gaza have been displaced, most of them are in the agency’s schools, The International Relief Agency (UNRWA) has confirmed.

“As heavy airstrikes continue, more and more IDPs seek shelter in UNRWA’s schools. Every effort is being made to provide basic services to the IDPs. However, the conditions are difficult, with some shelters overcrowded, and with limited availability of potable water. Not all 83 schools are DES (designated emergency shelters) hence not prepared to receive IDPs,” According to the UNRWA press release .

Yesterday, the European Union’s foreign policy chief, Josep Borrell, said that “the deteriorating humanitarian situation in Gaza requires more assistance from the Palestinian people.”

He noted that EU foreign ministers “agree that Israel must exercise its right to self-defense in accordance with international humanitarian law.”

The ministers agreed to condemn any attack targeting civilians and stressed the need to release detainees and respect international humanitarian law.

There should be no interruptions of water, food or electricity, he said, calling for humanitarian corridors to be opened “so that people can escape the bombardment towards Egypt”.
