CAIRO, Sept. 28 (YPA) – The Egyptian authorities deported on Thursday the Yemeni writer, Adel Al-Shujaa, towards the Spanish capital, Madrid.
Sources familiar with the matter said the deportation of Al-Shujaa to Spain came two days after stopping his deportation to Aden city, south of Yemen, following his health condition was deteriorated, as well as Yemeni media and human rights pressure that resonated with Cairo to reverse its previous decision, which was widely condemned.
Last week, the Egyptian authorities had transferred Adel Al-Shujaa to Cairo Airport, to deport him to Spain, but they changed the destination towards Aden at the request of the coalition-backed government, in retaliation against Al-Shujaa because of his writings and political positions.
Activists posted a video clip on social media that showed Adel Al-Shujaa’s wife appealing the human rights organizations and the Yemeni embassy in Cairo, to stop deporting her husband to Aden, confirming that she was surprised by this decision at the airport after the agreement had been to transfer him to Spain.
Al-Shujaa have been arrested since the 18th of this September by the Egyptian authorities that stormed his home, after a report was submitted by the head of the Saudi-formed presidential leadership council, Rashad Al-Alimi, and the head of its government of Maeen Abdul-Malik.
