Abyan witnesses unprecedented activity in looting precious stones

ABYAN, Sept. 16 (YPA) – Anonymous gangs, including foreign experts, have been active during the past few days to loot the tons of precious stones from the Ludar Mountains in Abyan province, which is controlled by factions loyal to the Saudi-led coalition in southern Yemen.

Local sources in the city said that “metal experts and geologists, including foreigners, are active in buying mountain stones in the Zghaina area on the outskirts of Ludar city, bringing the price of a kilo of stones to 3,000 riyals.”

The experts transfer stones to the city of Aden in preparation for their transfer abroad in informal ways, amid the absence of the state authorities, according to the sources.

The sources indicated that the sale of stones exceeded 20 million riyals per ton, suggesting that expert gangs are active in favor of the UAE.
