WORLD, Sept. 05 (YPA) – At least 54 civilians, including four children, have been reported killed and many injured in clashes in Deir Ezzor governorate, The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) said.
The OCHA added in a report that it had observed a movement of displacement in both the northern (Jadid Ekidat, Alsur, Alezba and Al-Rabida) and central line (Thiban, Busayira, Shahil, Daman) of Deir-ez-Zor to the nearest villages and towns. Some fearing a spillover of the hostilities were displaced to Al-Mayadeen, west of the Euphrates River.
” Critical public infrastructures have been damaged or destroyed, or vandalized/looted, resulting in heightened risks for civilian access to food, electricity and health services. Three water treatment facilities (Thiban, Darnaj and Al-Jardhi stations) serving 15,000 people have been damaged and are non-operational,” according to the report.
The UN office called on all the parties to the conflict and advocate for free and unimpeded movement and evacuation of injured patients and ambulances through conflict lines, both to western and eastern sides of the river.
It also urged them to take measures to prevent damages and attacks of health and other civilian infrastructure; facilitate delivery of life-saving supplies to functioning health facilities.
