Ethiopia keeps 45% of Egypt’s water share in Renaissance Dam

WORLD, Aug 20 (YPA) – Abbas Sharaki, Professor of Water Resources and Irrigation at Cairo University, on Saturday revealed the impact of the fourth filling of the Renaissance Dam on Egypt’s water share this year.

Professor Abbas Sharaki, said that Ethiopia keeps about 45% of Egypt’s water share, revealing the reason why this year’s flood did not occur.

“About 85% of the Nile water comes from Ethiopia and 15% from Lake Victoria,” he explained.

Abbas Sharaki further explained that Ethiopia is holding 25 billion cubic meters of water, and that part of it will come to Egypt in the coming months, as long as the two drainage gates are open.

He said that the absence of flooding this year came due to the reservation of the Renaissance Dam from July until today, and it is expected to continue in the fourth filling until September.

The professor noted that the August 15, on which Egypt celebrates the “Wafa al-Nile” festival every year came without flooding, due to the retention of water.
