Six killed in bombing of passenger bus in Somalia

MOGADISHU, Aug. 09 (YPA) – At least six people were killed in an explosion targeted a passenger bus in an area on the outskirts of the capital, Mogadishu, on Wednesday, the Somali News Agency (official) said.

The agency said, quoting Muhammad Ibrahim, governor of the Lower Shabelle region, that the attack took place on a road between Qoryoley and Marka and that 12 others were wounded.

The agency stated on the “X” platform (formerly Twitter) that Ibrahim said that a terrorist attack was behind the explosion.

Ibrahim did not accuse any group of being responsible for the attack.

Al-Qaeda-linked al-Shabaab movement has in the past claimed responsibility for similar attacks.

Al-Shabaab has been fighting since 2006 to overthrow the Somali central government and establish its rule based on its interpretation of Islamic law.
