SANAA, Aug. 01 (YPA) – At least six people were killed in Indonesia’s West Papua province, including a child, on Tuesday, as a result of the drought that swept the region.
“As a result of the drought, six people, including a child, have died, most likely due to diarrhea and dehydration, and residents in the affected areas are suffering from hunger,” Indonesian media quoted the governor of Puncak province, West Papua province, Willem Vandyke as saying.
According to the reports received, the victims suffered from similar symptoms of general weakness, diarrhea, fever, mouth ulcers and headaches.
The head of the disaster data center of Indonesia, Abdul Mahari, confirmed that the drought in Puncak province led to crop failure, and a total of 7,500 citizens were affected by the drought.
Indonesian media reported that the country’s authorities decided to send emergency humanitarian aid to the territory.
