Four Yemeni artifacts on display at Metropolitan Museum in New York                                                

SANAA, July 28 (YPA) – A Yemeni activist and researcher specialised in tracing looted and stolen Yemeni antiquities, Abdullah Mohsen, revealed the presence of four Yemeni artifacts displayed at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York.

In a Facebook post, Abdullah Mohsen said these artifacts are considered masterpieces of the Rasulid state.

He explained that the first masterpiece is “Ablutions Basin of Yemeni Sultan al-Mujahid Sayf al-Din ‘Ali”. It is decorated with inscriptions in Arabic calligraphy from the outside and inside. It was made in Taiz in the era of the Mujahid King Ali bin Al-Mu’ayyad Dawood (AD 1321-1363 AD). It is also made of copper; engraved and inlaid with silver and black compound, the top diameter of which is less than half a meter (46.5 cm).

The second masterpiece is “A Tray Made for the Rasulid Sultan al-Mu’ayyad Da’ud ibn Yusuf”, ( AD 1297-1321). It is made of copper, engraved and inlaid with silver and black compounds, diameter (71.1 cm).

The third masterpiece is “Astrolabe of ‘Umar ibn Yusuf ibn ‘Umar ibn ‘Ali ibn Rasul al-Muzaffari,”( AD 1295-1296 ).  It is made of copper and inlaid with silver.

The fourth masterpiece is “Brazier of Rasulid Sultan al-Malik al-Muzaffar Shams al-Din Yusuf ibn ‘Umar”, (AD 1250-1295). The brazier served as portable grills and heaters. It is brass; cast, chased, and inlaid with silver and black compound.
