Antique necklace from Yemen jewelry sold abroad

SANAA, July 25 (YPA) – A Yemeni activist and researcher specialized in tracing looted and stolen Yemeni antiquities, Abdullah Mohsen, has said that an electronic company offering an artifact of Yemen jewelry for direct sale.

According to Muhsin, e-commerce company established in Paris and its current headquarters in New York City offers a necklace of gold and onyx from the jewelry of the antiquities of Yemen, for direct sale without auction.

He pointed out that the necklace is made of gold and garnet, and it is 2200 years old.

Mohsen said that the gold necklace was previously offered at an auction on February 23, 2021, and the organizers of the auction claimed at the time that it was “the property of a respectable man, from his own collection formed in 1965-2020; this collection was verified by the Interpol database of stolen artworks.”

Mohsen explained: The necklace is studded with spherical onyx beads interspersed with granulated gold beads; Six bifacial gold pendants surround the central pendant, each of which is a disc with a cross-shaped center.

He added, the large central necklace is formed in the form of a double-sided bust with stylized features, four ornaments from the bottom with agate and amethyst.
