Fake companies seize coasts around Bab al-Mandab strait

SANAA, July 21 (YPA) – A state of secrecy prevails over issues of looting and confiscating land in Mocha district, which is under the control of the factions loyal to the Saudi-led coalition on the western coast of Yemen.

Yemeni activists believe that bad intentions are behind the attempt to silence voices that draw attention to the issue.

Abdulmalik al-Mikhlafi, one of the senior leaders loyal to the coalition, was forced to back down from his positions only two days after posting tweets in which he talked about the looting of private and public lands in the Mocha district in favor of fake projects.

It seems that controlling the coastal areas around Bab al-Mandab has become a concern for the branch of the UAE-led coalition in Yemen, whose priorities focus on securing the continuation of the foreign presence in Yemen, away from any political settlements for the war that has been going on in the country for nearly nine years.

In this context, activists from Mocha district revealed dangerous information about the nature of land acquisition, the signing of expropriation contracts from land owners, and then the purchase of land again from the state under the pretext that the hidden buyers discovered that the land belongs to the state.

Human rights activists from the area were surprised by the sudden influx of investors to Mocha and the areas surrounding the city with areas of tens of kilometers, which is the area that no one paid any attention to.

According to the activists, the contracts of the three companies, which were all signed on November 17, 2020, bear the same formula that limits government interference in the areas purchased by companies that some believe are fake companies affiliated with UAE intelligence.

The activists pointed out that the person who drew up these contracts is trying behind them to impose his existence in the name of “law” through the documents of purchase of the land approved by the pro-coalition authorities in Taiz province, which were put in place to legitimize the occupation of Yemen.

The sons of Mocha accused the president of the so-called “Presidential Leadership Council,” Rashad al-Alimi, and the head of the government,” Moein Abdulmalik, of complicity in enabling the occupation of the coasts of Yemen.
