ADEN, July 16 (YPA) – The UAE-backed Southern Transitional Council (STC) said that calls for mass protests next Monday are motivated by leaders of the General People’s Congress (GPC) to mark the anniversary of former President Ali Abdullah Saleh’s accession to power on July 17.
The STC mobilization committee said in a statement issued on Saturday that it rejects calls for rallies next Monday for peaceful protest against the deterioration of living conditions and the economic collapse.
The committee added that it “categorically rejects the exploitation of the suffering of the people for political purposes that affect the demands of the people of the south.”
Activists loyal to the STC said the call for Monday’s rallies was funded by officials affiliated with the GPC in Aden.
It should be noted that the city of Aden and the rest of Yemen under the control of the Saudi-led coalition have been experiencing a popular revolution after the economic collapse due to the collapse of the local currency, and the rise in the prices of food and basic commodities in those areas.
