SANAA, July. 09 (YPA) – The United Nations’ statements about the potential dangers resulting from the explosion of the Safer reservoir off the coast of Yemen, the most important of these expected damages, according to reports, were the disruption of navigation in the Red Sea.
The US’s concern about what it called the “Safer bomb” came in several sessions of the UN Security Council, which said that the tanker loaded with more than one million barrels of crude oil would cause an “environmental catastrophe” in the Red Sea, as the United Nations showed through the results of the initial examination of the tanker that the eighteen-month operation of the rescue will be on four phases.
What the repercussions of the events around this tank witnessed was so frightening that the United Nations demanded large financial grants to contribute to the unloading process, which was preceded by assurances of the difficulty of doing in light of the corrosion of the tanker, which is about to explode.
The promotion of these risks was not limited to pollution only, but according to preliminary estimates of the disaster, 17 million people would need humanitarian aid, in addition, the Yemeni fishermen will have to wait 25 years to recover fish stocks.
Today, the German government made reassuring statements about the unloading process, saying: there is progress in the process of saving the tanker.
The statements, which made by the director of the Department of Crisis Prevention, Stability, Peace Promotion and Humanitarian Aid at the German Foreign Ministry, Deike Potzel, said: “During the investigations, the experts found that fortunately, the situation on the ship is not quite as critical as we feared.”
Potzel’s statements confirmed that the preparatory work for unloading the oil may be almost completed, adding that samples were taken to clarify the issue of the quality of the oil with the aim of reselling it, and these samples have not been evaluated yet.
“The unloading process may take a few weeks,”Potzel reported.
