SHABWA, July. 05 (YPA) – The French Petroleum Company (Total) has started to carry out maintenance work inside the Balhaf gas liquefaction plant in Shabwa province, southeast of Yemen.
Sources familiar with the matter said on Wednesday a maintenance team would work at repairing transmission and production lines as a result of stopping production for years, within the framework of moves that pave the way for the re-plundering and export of liquefied gas from the facility.
According to the sources, “Total’s moves are taking place in collusion with the coalition-backed Maeen government,” which is accused of corruption and tampering with the wealth of the Yemeni people.
Observers considered this uncalculated step came after Sanaa had warned foreign companies that plunder Yemen’s wealth to stop any extraction or export of oil derivatives, and to take these warnings seriously unless they would be a legitimate target by Sanaa forces.
Last year, “Total” company had evacuated the gas facility in Balhaf, due to its fears of being targeted, following the air attacks were carried out by Sanaa forces on the ports of exporting wealth in the east of the country, to warn all foreign companies against the continued looting of Yemeni wealth.
