Two dead in shooting at US consulate in Jeddah

RIYADH, June 29 (YPA) – Two people were killed on Thursday in a shooting at the US consulate in Saudi Arabia.

The US State Department affirmed in a statement that a member of the local guard affiliated with the consulate and the attacker who was killed by Saudi security forces, adding that the consulate was closed as required, and no US citizens were injured in the shooting incident.

“We can confirm reports of a shooting incident outside our consulate in the Saudi city of Jeddah,” the statement said.

“Security investigations are underway to uncover the circumstances of the incident,” according to the Saudi security spokesman for Macca Region Police.
