Al-Saidi elected in New York as head of Yemeni community

SANAA, June 29 (YPA) – The Yemeni community in New York City celebrated on Thursday the victory of businessman Ali Abdul Latif Al-Saidi as a head of the community.

Al-Saidi got 1,275 votes out of 5,372 votes, after running a competition against his 7 list-based competitors, to whom the rest of the votes were distributed in the elections, which have been the first since 2010.

In a statement after announcing his victory as the chair of the Yemeni community, Al-Saidi confirmed that he would do his utmost to be with the good people of the community in defending their issues and achieving their interests in a way that serves the national interest of Yemen.

He praised the community’s embodiment of democratic action as the right to elect someone who represents them, despite the challenges.

Al-Saidi is considered the first head of the Yemeni community elected in New York by the Yemeni expatriates, who is estimated their number more than two hundred thousand Yemenis.
