Strong earthquake hits western France

WORLD, June 17 (YPA) – A very strong earthquake measuring between 5.3 and 5.8 on the Richter scale struck western France on Friday night, causing material damage, Agence France-Presse (AFP) reported.

According to AFP, the national network for seismic surveillance RENASS recorded the quake at 5.3 while the French Central Seismological Bureau (BCSF) put it at 5.8.

It struck at 18:38 in Karam-Chapin, between the regions of La Rochelle and Niort, according to geographical coordinates provided by Be. C. S. F and RENASS.

Its effects were felt especially by the inhabitants of the regions of Rennes, Bordeaux and Limoges.
