Duma to discuss law banning “sex change”

WORLD, June 14 (YPA) – The State Duma of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation to consider the first reading of the sex change (Sex reassignment)  bill on Wednesday, with the exception of cases of treatment of congenital malformations in children.

The draft law prohibits civil registry offices from making amendments to documents based on sex change medical certificates.

This was reported to the Russian agency “TASS”, based on testimonies of  a source in the office of the Russian State Duma.

The bill introduced by all five State Duma blocs headed by State Duma Speaker Vyacheslav Volodin.

According to the document, the Law “On the Basics of Protecting the Health of Citizens in Russia” is supplemented by an article prohibiting medical interventions aimed at changing the sex of any person, including the formation of primary or secondary sexual characteristics.
