Meteorology warns residents against heat wave in desert areas

SANAA, June 07 (YPA) – A heat wave will be expected to hit the desert areas during the coming 24 hours, due to a rise in temperatures between 36 and 42 degrees Celsius.

In new warning statement on Wednesday, the National Center of Meteorology urged the citizens not to be exposed to direct sunlight in desert and coasts areas.

The center warned of the noticeable decrease in the range of horizontal visibility on mountain roads during rain, and of high waves and sea turbulence around the Socotra archipelago, advising against sailing in the upper maritime territorial waters east of the Gulf of Aden.

It predicted rains of varying intensity, accompanied by thunderstorms, on the Socotra archipelago and parts of Hajjah, Mahweet, Rayma, Dhamar, Ibb, Taiz, Dhalea, Abyan and Shabwa, and Hadramout province.
