Sheikh Abdullah bin Essa al-Afrar officially resigns from STC

MAHRA, May 24 (YPA) -Sheikh Abdullah bin Essa al-Afrar, son of the last sultan of the “Afrar Sultanate” in Mahra province, on Tuesday, broke up his alliance with the UAE-backed Southern Transitional Council (STC) by resigning from the council in a move that could end any arrangements in the eastern Yemeni province.

The former advisor at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in the government loyal to Saudi-led coalition Anis Mansour, told southern media that Bin Afrar announced his resignation from the STC officially.

Bin Afrar, who led the most important political and social bloc for the people of Mahra and Socotra before his ouster after  his alliance with the STC in Socotra, has formed the gate of the STC to expand in Mahra, which refuses any foothold for the STC.

Bin Afrar’s decision to end the alliance with the STC came a day after the STC announced the name of the next southern state as the “Hadramout state”.

The STC had sidelined Abdullah bin Afrar in favor of Rajeh Bakrit, the former governor of Mahra, which also angered bin al-Afrar.
